APPLIQUE
Decorative work in which one piece of cloth is sewn or fixed onto
another, or the activity of decorating cloth in this way.
AVANTE GARDE
New and experimental ideas and methods in art or fashion that evoke a sense of bizarreness to them .
A-LINE
Silhouettes which are fitted at shoulder for dresses and at waist for
skirts.These gradually flare out at the hem resembling the alphabet “A”


BERET
A "Beret is a circular flat hat that is made of soft material like cloth or felt and has a tight band but no brim to it.
BIAS
Bias cut means ‘to be cut on the grain’ .Rather than following the straight
line of the weave, the bias cut places the pattern at a 45 degree angle on
the woven fabrics. At this angle, the ‘wrap’ and ‘weft’ threads give the
fabric more of an classic ‘stretch’

BOLERO
Collarless, open fronted jackets which end above the waist, originating from Spain.
espadrille
A shoe that is made from strong cloth, with a sole (=bottom part) made
from braided rope.

empire line
A silhouette where the waist starts right under the bust instead of natural
waistline.
fad
A style, activity or interest, that is very popular for a short period of time.

Predictions of fashion trends, styles, silhouette, textiles and colours for
upcoming seasons to guide the fashion industry.
fedora
The fedora is a soft felt hat with a crease lengthwise down the crown and
is pinched in the front on bothsides.


FLUTED

GATHERS
Gathering is a sewing technique that reduces the length of piece of
fabric,so longer piece can match and be attached to a shorter one.It is
used to manage,as much as a disguise , a source of fullness-such as cuff
or sleeve -and can also pinch a skirt into a waistband or bodice.
GODET
Godet pleat -or a godet skirt -is a flared shape that uses triangular fabric
inserts to give the garment extra moment.The skirt has a fitted upper part
,with a godet panels, inserted at even intervals around the hem, giving it
more swing.

GUSSet
Gusset is a panel, either triangular or diamond in shape, that is inserted into a garment to help shape and reinforce key points, like the underarms or crotch.
